About the Soaring Pride Band

The purpose of the Canyon High School Soaring Pride Band is three-fold: 1) To play high quality music at a high level of excellence, 2) To educate the students about music, its history and properties, and 3) To mold the students into respectable member of society.

Marching Band – At CHS, we strive to be all-inclusive in our marching program.  Although we do keep a few alternates for the purpose of filling in spots due to grades or injury, we use everyone in the band.  Not only do we work hard to have a competitive show, we teach the students values such as integrity, patience, honor, pride, and citizenship.

Concert Ensembles – We have two concert ensembles.  The Symphonic Band is comprised of students selected by audition as the best in the program.  It is more demanding musically and requires more of a time commitment.  The Concert Band is comprised of those students who are not quite ready for the Symphonic Band.  The Concert Band plays easier literature and does not demand the time that the Symphonic Band does.

Jazz Band – Participation in Jazz Band is determined by a simple audition.  The band(s) meet outside of school and work on music specifically related to the idiom.  If enough students are interested, we will add bands to accommodate all students.

Awards – The band program at Canyon High School has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout the years.  This band had been awarded multiple First Division and Sweepstakes awards from festivals and the UIL in the last several decades.  The band placed third in the 2002 UIL State Marching Contest, and won its class in the 2003 Outstanding Performance Series (hosted by ATSSB). In 2004, The Symphonic Band won OPS again, and was also selected as the Texas 3A Honor Band.  We look forward to continuing the tradition of pride in excellence in the coming years.
