**** Concert Band ****

Monday - 7:30 a.m. Rehearsal in band hall (DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BEING LATE); 3:45 p.m. short 10 minute meeting of junior high contest helpers
Tuesday - 8:15 a.m. Meet in band hall in full uniform (bring change of clothes); 9:50 a.m. compete at Randall; Once you return, change clothes and return to class
Wed - Junior High contest (check attached schedule) - if not working, report to commons for 1st period
Thursday - same as Wed.
Fri - 8:15 a.m. split into bands - review contest and turn in any music.

Banquet video - please start turning in video and pictures for the video. Seniors, I need a baby pic, senior pic, and your info and wills. PLEASE DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.

Junior High Contest - Wed and Thurs, April 18-19. We will host this. I will post a schedule this week based on your permission form and your availability. Contest both days goes until approximately 6 p.m.

Leadership Team - Sign up sheets are up for next year's team. Get an application and start filling it out. They are due April 27.

Drum Major/Colorguard - sign up sheets are up. Rehearsal times are listed on the sheets.

Drumline/Percussion - Sign up sheets are up. Packets are ready. Pick one up in the band hall.

Banquet Video - please start getting pictures and video together for me. I'd like to start putting the banquet video together as soon as possible. You can give me a disk, a flash drive, or just email them to me.

Seniors - I need your baby picture, your senior picture, and your will and info sent to me. Wills and info need to be in electronic format (no written/hard copies please). Info needs to include "Person/People who you most admire and why?", "Favorite memory of band", "What are you going to do after high school?". Please be sure to include your name on everything.

UPDATE: Two bits of info. on Monday afternoon:

- We will have a booster meeting Thursday night at 7 p.m. There will also be a concert going on (junior high pre-UIL) so I'm not sure where at CHS it will be, so plan on coming to the band hall and any site change will be posted on the door.

- Concert band will NOT be having a rehearsal after school Tuesday (just too many conflicts).

Both bands had a fantastic concert last week. We're going to ratchet up the intensity for the next two weeks, so be ready to work! Contest is on Tuesday, April 17, at Randall HS.

JUNIOR HIGH CONTEST - We need students to help run the contest. If you're interested, come by and get a form for your teachers. We need them to OK your absence on those days. (April 18-19, Wed and Thurs.)

NEXT CONCERT - April 12 at CHS auditorium.

CONCERT BAND - please continue to get your music played off.

Wed - 7;30 a.m. flutes; 8:15 a.m. full band.
Thurs - 7:30 a.m. low brass; 8:15 a.m. full band; 5:30 p.m. Spaghetti suppper (if interested); 6:30 p.m. warm up on stage; 7 p.m. concert in uniform.
Fri - 7:30 a.m. horn/alto; 8:15 a.m. full band.

SYMPHONIC BAND - please hold off on submitting recordings as there are several having difficulty. We will possibly go to a live play-off format.
Woodwinds, focus on Candide. Brass, focus on Candide and March. Percussion, focus on Movement for Rosa.

Mon - 6-8 p.m. Band rehearsal - sectionals (Please get there early enough to check schedule and room assignment. No bassoons needed tonight.)

Hi, everyone,

I hope Spring Break was restful and rejuvenating. With the break at an end, we start the great push to May and to contest. We have 4 weeks until contest. There's a lot going on, so hang on. Here we go.

Monday morning (today!) - we will not have ANY sectionals (both bands) or night rehearsal. The first day back is hard enough. :)

Mr. Hernandez - Mr. H will be out for 1-2 weeks taking care of his wife. She will be having surgery tomorrow. Don't worry, she should be fine, but she's going to need to be his #1 focus. Mr. Zorn will be working with the concert band during 1st period. This is a role he's performed before to critical acclaim.

First concert and spaghetti supper - Our first concert is March 29 at 7 p.m. at the CHS auditorium. The boosters will host the annual spaghetti supper in the commons for $6 per person starting at 5:30 p.m.

Region Jazz - if you are auditioning, please try to make a CD of yourself playing the etudes. Put your name in permanent marker on the outside, but don't say your name on the recording tracks. If need be, you can use my recorder Monday morning.

Marching show 2012 - We are using Ballet Sacra by David Holsinger. The wind parts for the first half are complete. When percussion parts are added, we can sit down and listen to it and come up with a theme for the show. You get to pick it.

Hi, everyone. Only one week until Spring Break. This year is going by quickly. :)

UNIFORMS - students will be measures during first period. Lorraine Pistocco and Regina Jones have taken up this task (thank you, ladies) but we could us one or two more. Measuring will start Tuesday morning.

WEDNESDAY - there will be no sectionals Wed. due to standardized testing. This is an early release day also.

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE CONCERT - We will be having a percussion ensemble concert on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. This is open to the public and free, and will also be very fun as we are including the junior high students. Set up is at 6 p.m., with a run through of Bailando at 6:30 p.m. Dress for performers is all black. (my apologies to all of you that have had to re-arrange your scheduled for this. Planning didn't go as I would've preferred. Please let me know if I can do something to help.)

We had a great week last week with Scott Coulson and with the flutes learning from Mary Karen Clardy. This week is a little less exciting, but we're getting closer to performance level with the music. If you're interested, I've attached the evaluation of our band program by Mr. Coulson. It's quite interesting.

Hi, everyone,

Congratulations to Jordan Norris, Taylor Rutkowski, and the trumpet trio Pistocco, Alex, and Allen. They received first divisions on their events in Lubbock Saturday, as they had to compete later than we did due to a major conflict with our contest. Well done!!

Mr. Scott Coulson will be here Monday and Tuesday!! He is retired from Mesquite Poteet High School in East Texas. Mr. Coulson's bands have won 4A marching championships 3 times, and he has had a 4A honor band, among many other honors and awards. Please treat him like an honored guest, and be sure to arrive on time for rehearsals.

FLUTES - There is a clinic with Mary Karen Clardy, famous flute performer and author, at Randall H.S. on Friday, 8-9:30 a.m. I would like for you all to attend, so please plan on this.

Concert - We have a concert scheduled the week before spring break, but we are replacing it with a percussion ensemble concert. Please come and watch the percussionists. Date is not certain, but it will most likely be Tuesday or Thursday, March 6 or 8, at 7 p.m.

This week is an easy week. The directors will be gone Wed-Fri to convention. The band hall will be open very minimally during this time, so please don't plan on hanging around in the band hall before or after school.

Sectionals - No sectionals this week. We will start them in earnest next week.

Uniform update - we are in the final stages of the design approval process. We should be measuring students for the new uniforms in March.

Amarillo High School was added to District 3-4A this morning. Hereford High School was moved to District 4-4A. So beginning Fall 2012, Canyon High School will be competing against Amarillo High School in UIL sanctioned events.

We've got a big week this week. Solo and ensemble contest is the big event! Attached you'll find a schedule for the event. Our contest is Saturday, Feb. 4, at WTAMU. Please plan on dressing up for this contest.

On Friday, we will be hosting the junior high solo/ensemble contest. If you signed up to help, I will have you assigned a job. I'll give you more info, but please just make sure you are here. :)

Wed. is Green Chile Willy's day. Please go have a chicken fried steak.

Hi, everyone.

Congratulations to all of our area participants. We didn't score any all staters this year, but the level of difficulty and performance is admirable. I'm very proud of each of you!!

All-Region Band- This will happen at CHS on Friday afternoon/evening and most of the day Saturday. Check your folder for the schedule. I believe we start at 2 p.m. Friday (some of you haven't gotten your folders yet. I'm working on that.)

This week's schedule:

Monday - Band at 8:45 due to PLC schedule. Symphonic band seniors and juniors - please check out a tux/dress.
Tues - Regular schedule - Symphonic band sophomores and freshmen - check out a tux/dress.
Wed. - Concert band all region band members - come check out a tux/dress.
Thurs. - JAZZ BAND 4 p.m. Jazz 2; 4:45 p.m. Jazz 1
Fri - All Region Band (I haven't seen a schedule yet, but I believe it's 2-5 p.m., 7-9 p.m.)
Sat - All Region band (I believe it's 9 a.m.-noon; 1-3:30 p.m. performance at 5:30 p.m. DON'T HOLD ME TO THIS. I HAVEN'T SEEN A SCHEDULE.)

Hi, everyone,
Hope you are having a spectacular 2012 so far! We still have a few days of vacation left, but it's time to start looking ahead. Here are some announcements.

Tues. - 1-3 p.m. Area help. Unless you are still out of town, you need to be here!! Come let us listen to you, area qualifiers!!
Thurs - Back to school! Band begins at 8:45 a.m. since we are on PLC schedule. This will be the final day to make sure solo/ensemble entries are correct.
Fri. - Band at 8:15 a.m. Area participants will miss the entire school day. Please plan accordingly. (I will send out an itinerary again Tues.)
Sat. - Area tryouts in Abilene. Return at approximately 9 p.m.

Next week is all region band clinic/concert. We will need to check out tuxes/dresses for this.
